Little Homicide on the Prairie

By F. Jane O'Brien

Nestled in the bend of Prune Creek, with a view of the foothills, is the quaint town of Chicken Scratch, Alberta.  It's a typical prairie town – a few business people, a wealthy banker who holds the mortgages on all the buildings and farms in the area, and the rest of the folk who work their fingers to the bone trying to eke out a living.  There's little diversion from the grind of everyday life in Chicken Scratch in 1901 - so when there's a church hall social – like they're having tonight – everyone attends, even a villain like Philmore Valtz.  It's too bad the evening will end in calamity with a little homicide on the prairie.
